Clerk to the Parish Council

Shaldon Parish Council is seeking to appoint a motivated, dynamic, and forward-thinking individual to the role of Clerk to the Council and Responsible Financial Officer due to the retirement of our existing Clerk.

They will be responsible for-

  • preparing agendas, taking & producing minutes of all meetings.
  • dealing with correspondence as required as well as dealing with members of the public, contractors, and Government officials, as necessary.
  • managing all aspects of the Parish accounts including bank reconciliation, preparing budgets, VAT returns, and organising audits using excel.
  • an experienced background in bookkeeping / accounting is desirable
  • an understanding of Risk Management, for the day to day activities of the Parish Council would be desirable.
  • supervise and manage the Parish website as well as our social media presence.

It is an essential requirement that the applicant can communicate well at all levels and has a good grasp of Office 365 Microsoft software.

Attendance will be required at Parish Meetings, which are held in the evenings.

We are looking for an effective communicator with a professional attitude. They should be confident in their ability to work on their own initiative, demonstrate attention to detail and have good organisational skills in order to ensure the smooth running of the day-to-day activities, as well as helping the Council implement a full and ambitious work programme which aims to improve and enhance facilities for the whole community.

Salary will be in line with NALC guidelines and according to experience and qualifications. The post requires 14 hours per week. Some flexibility is required to reflect attendance at evening meetings. The role is primarily home based.

Candidates would ideally have Local Government experience and/or a good understanding of the processes of local government and hold the minimum ILCA qualification or CILCA qualification or part thereof. Ongoing.

Professional Development will be supported & funded by the Parish Council.

Job Types: Part-time, Permanent
Part-time hours: 14 per week

Salary: £11.05 per hour (minimum) additional will be considered depending on experience.

Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday with very very occasional Saturday

Ability to communte with own car, driving licence and insurance

Experience:

  • ILCA (preferred)
