Shaldon is protected under Plan Teignbridge. Under the new Teignbridge Local Plan 2013-2033, Shaldon’s village envelope is retained from the previous plan, and the surrounding area is defined as Undeveloped Coast. The Parish Council and villagers have the option to develop additionally a Neighbourhood Plan should this become desirable.

Shaldon is an idyllic little fishing village of quaint thatched cottages, period houses, contemporary homes and narrow winding streets situated at the mouth of the Teign estuary on the edge of the English Riviera and Torbay. It lies adjacent to the older village of Ringmore and both enjoy a delightfully warm micro climate, sheltered from the sea by the Ness, the imposing red sandstone headland that has been a welcome landmark for centuries of sailors.
