Shaldon is a unique village on the Teign Estuary, at its heart is a Conservation Area and it is surrounded by an Area of Great Landscape Value and adjoined by the Coastal Protection Area.

The village is protected under Plan Teignbridge. Under the new Teignbridge Local Plan 2013-2033 Shaldon’s village envelope is retained from the previous plan, and the surrounding area is defined as Undeveloped Coast. The Parish Council and villagers have the option to develop additionally a Neighbourhood Plan should this become desirable.

There is more information about the Teignbridge Local Plan online at www.teignbridge.gov.uk/planteignbridge.

Plan Teignbridge was formally adopted at Teignbridge’s Annual Council meeting on 6 May 2014. It should now be given full weight in decision making on planning applications.
